-----
A software patent in Second Life
-----
には
-----
It seems even Linden Lab doesn’t have one: a patent on software in connection to any of its Second Life platform. And as far as anyone knows, no one does and until now no one has ever applied for one. Software patents among developers are more than frowned on.
-----
-----
[SLED] could be trouble World.com patent on avatars
-----
には
-----
It does seem afully odd to have granted for this. I remember reading Peter Small's A-Life Avatars and Magical OOP - in the 90's. Seems like avatar conceptually is derivative of 1960's sci-fi? So how do they get a patent on it? Isn't the easiest way to knock down a patent suit just to prove that your stuff pre-dates the patent? Are they only suing people who did avatars after 2007?
-----
と
-----
